I love the holidays! The mistletoe, the egg nog... Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...
Yule logs burning on tv!!
So, drive safe, if you're going to visit loved ones. Don't celebrate too hard. Don't wanna get busted for DUI. Have a great Christmas (or whatever you celebrate), and have an awesome New Year! I'll see you all in 2010!!
Wait, what?
It's only March? You mean it's not December already?
*sigh*
Then why the fuck is it snowing??
Yup, that was the view out my window this morning. If I didn't tell you that I photographed it today, do you think you would've been able to tell when I shot it? I doubt it...
And it dumped a bunch today too... It wasn't just an intermittent sprinkling. It was snowing for at least 4 or 5 hours... I went out for a little bit yesterday, and it snowed yesterday too. But it quickly stopped and didn't snow again.... Until late last night or early this morning I guess. Un-fucking-believable...
So I stayed home for most of the morning. Hell, no! I am not getting in my car to drive through this shit. Fuck that... If Vancouver at least plowed their shit, then maybe, but fuck man... You can't expect people to be ok driving around in this crap...
I'm getting too old to put up with this... Gimme some heat already. I want to see the fuckin' sun. I want to see some god damn plants growing. Give it a rest already...
The snow did eventually stop, and I did eventually make it in to the office. But by that point, pretty much anyone who was as smart as me, was staying home. And anyone who was dumber than me was already in the office...
I guess I fell somewhere in between...
As the day went on, the snow never came back. It melted and melted and melted... I was lucky because I didn't have to try and drive in the middle of this mess. But I know people did. So don't forget to pour some out for the homies who couldn't be here... because they didn't feel like carting their ass around in the snow... I don't blame them.
And then the day was done... Looking back, it wasn't totally bad. I got to stay home. And I got to show my silly face around the office. I guess it's win-win for me!
Oh, one more thing before I forget. I got to return that spoiled milk. I don't know what happened, since it was way before expiring. But the dude at the store asked me if I wanted an exchange. Yeah right, dude... Like I want to exchange this spoiled milk for the even-more-spoiled milk that you've been curdling on the shelf over there. Fuck that crap. Do I look like a dumbass? Wait. Don't answer that....
Anyway, Happy New Year everybody!
Something occurred to me today while driving in to work. As you may have guessed, it's fucking cold up here... Cold as a witch's teat, as they say... I, of course, have no factual evidence to back that up, and I don't know how someone would be able to know how cold the said teat would actually be. But I like to think that there's a lab somewhere, where there are little geeky guys dressed in lab coats with thermometers and many many witches... With teats...
Anyway, the point that I was trying to make before I went off on a ridiculous tangent with no real purpose was that as I was driving in to work with the heater cranked up, I wondered how certain animals cope with the temperature? I mean, I know bears hibernate, and ducks fly south and all that, but those are just workarounds. There's some animals that actually stick around for the cold. Take some small birds for example.
Some of those little birds, like chickadees, hang about during the winter. But birds got those little spindly legs. How do they not freeze and break off?? Like, wouldn't they just get brittle and crack?? I know if there was an icicle that thin, it would break pretty easily, but somehow, birds get to keep their legs throughout the winter... I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm glad there aren't a bunch of legless chickadees inhabiting parts of northern U.S.A. and southern Canada, but it seems like they can defy physics or something... Whatever...
Another example is from tonight. Went out to celebrate Xmas with some co-workers, and as I was driving home, I almost hit a dog. Almost. There was no owner with it, and clearly no leash. It was a big golden retriever, but I don't know how golden it was, because it looked like it had been outside for a few days. Maybe more of a dirty blonde color... Anyway, that thing ran right out into the street without considering that a MF'ing car was about to run it over had my reflexes not kicked in and hit the brakes... It looked nervous and scared, and when it looked at me, it had this look like it was kind of freaked out... But back to my point, how is it able to survive in the cold? As far as I know, they don't have command over fire, so how else can it keep warm? How 'come it doesn't just freeze to death? I got sweaters, heavy coats, scarves, vests, all kinds of shit on and I'm still freezing my ass off...
I guess these are questions that don't really need to be answered. I mean, I'd hate for someone to actually try to study this stuff 'cuz it seems a pretty stupid thing to research. Particularly when there's still diseases and stuff out there with no cures... Then some idiot goes off and does a research study on chickadee legs and stray dogs... People are dying of real shit and you're studying chickadee legs... Man, I don't need to have that blood on my hands...
So yes, it's winter. Snow is on the ground. A harsh bitter chill is in the air. And somehow, some animals are perfectly ok with it.
...post it on a blog. HAH!
Actually, there's really not been all that much stuff happening lately. It's getting colder and colder and the leaves have changed from yellow to orange to red. There's even leafless trees... Like little tree skeletons, all standing in a row...
I suppose the economy has something to do with things somewhat slowing down (yeah... blame the economy for everything...). I mean, I'm sure it's got lots of people awake at night about what will happen. I know people at work are nervous about it. I dunno... I don't want to turn this post into a big rant on financials...
So what the heck is the point of this post?
I guess things are just kinda rolling along. Nothing really to say, nice or otherwise, about anything actually... Winter is coming, or maybe it's here. Work still kinda blows. That's all there is to it.
So, carry on people.... Nothing to see here. Well, here you go... Watch this video... If only courtrooms were always that fun!
Note: I pressed the 'Save' button a bunch of times (well, it didn't seem like anything was happening!!) and had like 3 copies of this post on my blog...
Well, now I'm back to the frozen wasteland that is perched on America's head...
Lately, I've resorted to hermitism... It is so freaking cold now that I have to turn on a heater, something which I don't think I've ever done in all my years of living in California. And since I can only exist in one room at a time (without violating the laws of physics) I decided that its better to only put the heat on in the one room so I spare the environment from my crazy desire to not freeze my balls off... And since I sleep in the bedroom, that inevitably becomes the place where the heat is... So now I live out of the bedroom where it is a balmy 75 ~ 80 degrees... I can still wear t-shirts there. But when I need to venture out to the other parts of Canada, e.g. the kitchen, I have to put on my arctic gear. It's actually worse now than before. At least, before, I was acclimating. But then going back and then returning... Well, it just feels a lot colder than perhaps it really is.
It's a little strange, living out of a single room. But I suppose it could be worse... I'm not sure how yet, but I have to believe in something... Maybe I should read Robinson Crusoe...
My time back in California was great! In fact, I had planned a post with lots of pictures, but my vacation attitude has maintained itself so strongly that I just can't bring myself to get around to unloading some photos from the camera...
I'll do it some day, or something... Whatever...
To everyone I saw (or didn't see) while I was there, just wanted to say thanks! Had lots of fun and am looking forward to next time...
So until next time... Um... Happy trails or something...
